What is the Olymp ?
The Olymp is a BBS in layman's terms its a bulletin board system where users can come, chat and post messages and get responses. You have probably already seen similar thingys on the web. Forums where you can post messages and get responses. One of the main differences between those and The Olymp is that the Olymp runs under a protocol called telnet. So it is completely text driven and as such required you to have a telnet application or to be able to run the java client on your computer.
How much does it cost ?
Nothing The olymp is free. It is being and was developed as a free project by students and working people interested in helping out. There are no banner ads no hidden extras. Your details won't be sold of to anyone for money.
Whats with the all this temple and god stuff ?
When the BBS was original created it was given a theme. That theme being greek gods and temples, and well its stuck and there's no plans to change it. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
How do I use the Olymp ?
- First of you have to be able to connect to the internet. Secondly you have to have a telnet program. You can download one to suit your personal needs from telnet clients or alternatively you can use the online java client located java client
- if you are new to the olymp you'll be asked to sign in as new and fill out a few personal details. All details are considered private. They are just needed for validation so that any of the bad people who are abusive and out to cause hastle to the other users can be eliminated.
- After this you will get validated by one of the admin aka. GODS :)

What is telnet?
The telnet protocol was developed during the early stages of the Internet. It is a protocol to allow a user to remotely log into another computer and perform tasks there as if they are sitting on a terminal connected to that computer.
What is SSH?
SSH or Secure SHell is just like the telnet protocol, but it provides a secure way to log into a remote host. All communications are encrypted, which makes it much harder for third parties to tamper with the information that is sent over the network or to sniff out your password.
User Guide
The olymp is all keyboard driven. You can paste text in but all the commands come from keyboard presses.
As such its handy to know a few of the commands. Its easy once you get used to it :)
shift-Q ask a prophet ( person who's available to help ) a question about the bbs.
h another important key the help key. Useful for finding out more information about the olymp
w gives you a WHO-List. a list of all the users that are currently online
x message someone online at the moment. Get a list of whos on with
s stop reading if you are reading something or skip a temple.
k list the temples that you know.
j jump to a temple of your choice. Either a number or a name
space The final frontier. But seriously a way of getting to the next message / rest of the current message
l log out *sniff sniff* you don't love us. Or you've got places to be things to do.
